What a long, interesting week we have had here in Canto Rey. I can't quite believe that it's only been 1 week since I've written you all.
You will all be interested to hear (well, maybe. at least I'm interested to inform you), that I have a new companion! I'm in the same ward, but now I'm with Hermana Alvarez from Cali, Colombia. She was already in the ward with another companion, but both of our companions left and we are here all by ourselves now. And our area is gigantic. So it's definitely been an adventure! She's super skinny and really sweet. Haha. She is also an excellent teacher and pretty laid back, so we've been getting along well.
We are now living in her old house, which is nicer than my old cave that we lived in. I dare say though, I grew to love our ugly concrete cave with the holes in the roof. Her house is definitely nicer, but it's FREEZING. We both sleep with 3 alpaca blankets at night and wake up shivering. This week has just been really cold. I miss heaters!
Our fourth of July was a little uneventful. One sister was going to make us burgers, but she didn't end up having time. So we ate arroz con pollo, the most Peruvian dish in Peru! It was actually pretty funny. We ended up buying ice cream afterwards to celebrate.
Right now we're helping 2 young men prepare to get baptized, Guido and Jherfi. They're both progressing really well. Pray for them so that they can make it to their baptismal dates at the end of this month! :)
This week our President taught us an interesting concept. A lot of people, when they don't understand a concept or want to learn more about some principle, go to the all knowing internet. The internet is a blessing. But it is not a replacement for knowledge. We receive knowledge by the good old fashioned spirit, which needs time to work within us and teach us. Many investigators that don't understand certain principles go and look it up online, where they are fed half truths and lies that numb their ability to feel the Spirit. This is a bad thing! We need to learn patience as we ask for guidance through fervant prayer, diligently search the scriptures, and heed the teachings of our leaders. Then, and only then, will we receive the knowledge of our Father through the Spirit. That's one thing that's not going to get advanced through technology. So slow down, pray, and listen.
I'm trying to think of what I could have possibly forgotten, but we have been robbed half an hour of our internet time today. :(
I love and miss you all! Hope everyone enjoyed their fourth.
Until we write again,
Hermanita Schroader
