Oof. What a week. But really though. How exhausting! We are hoping to be able to enjoy a day of rest.
Most exciting part of the week: we finally escaped San Juan de Lurigancho to make a visit to Downtown Lima! We got to take a fancy new train that they've built to arrive at our destination. The historical part included a visit to the old Catholic Catacombs. Talk about a lesson on the Great Apostasy! Some sketchy stuff went down in that church. Most of the church is actually restored because it was destroyed in an earthquake a few decades back, but it was still full of some awesome architecture. I especially enjoyed seeing a super old pipe organ and a choral chamber where the monks practiced singing hymns. Of course the underground graveyard was also super cool. There is some really sketchy art in that church that made me grateful for the Church of Jesus Christ. And I'm glad that we don't have things like secret torture chambers in the church either. That's a really wonderful blessing. We also enjoyed buying some Peruvian souvenirs and eating in a really fancy shot.
Shoot... I'm forgetting about other things that have been going on this week. I recall having many lessons on patience and charity and unity. We had several companionship inventories. Oh, and I got to speak in sacrament meeting yesterday! That was exciting. I spoke on Family Home Evenings. My favorite part of giving talks is hearing the leaders try to pronounce my name while announcing who the speakers are. I've got a joke going on down here in just about all of Lima that I am Hermana "Head and Shoulder," because there is no real good comparison in Spanish to be able to say Schroader. The whole schr thing just doesn't work. But they understand the shampoo.
I'm out of time for profound spiritual thoughts... but next week I promise to find a good one.
Love you bunches,
Hermana Schroader
