Howdy, ya'll! I'm missing you all this week. What a long and bizarre week it has been. There are still many trials, but at least I have a few interesting things to tell you all about.
Last week we successfully made an American breakfast complete with pancakes, French toast, bacon, and cheesy scrambled eggs with syrup. The Americans all seemed really happy. The Latinos don't understand sweet with salty, but that's okay. It was fun. :)
This week we got to eat cuy! That's guinea pig, just so you all know. It was a little different this time around. I think that I might like it better fried, and that I prefer to eat animals that have more meat on their bones. But it's always fun to say that you're eating weird things in other countries!
I got to go out with one of the sister leaders this week to work in her area while my companion had a work visit. It was interesting. We worked our butts off and literally hiked to several visits. In the cerros we climbed around 500 stairs as well. I pretty much ended my day feeling like jello. But we had 10 lessons in one day, which is like, miraculous. It was a good learning experience.
On Saturday we had a baptism for the sweetest lady ever. Her name is Ines. She was the one I told you all about last week that got baptized like 30 years ago but never got confirmed. Well now she's clean and purified by the Holy Ghost! She's super happy. And, to top it all off, her boyfriend that lives in Utah proposed to her via Skype right after her baptism. It was really precious.
I've had a few of you all asking me about the earthquake that happened here yesterday. We actually feel aftershocks like, all of the time. At least once every two or three weeks. But you just feel the floor move a little bit for about 15 seconds, and then nothing really happens afterwards. I had no clue that there had been a bigger earthquake in Lima. But yeah. We're all just fine here!
To conclude with a spiritual thought, I've been singing a lot to myself this week. Mostly a Primary song that I have always treasured, I'm Trying to Be Like Jesus.
"I'm tring to be like Jesus,
I'm following in His ways.
I'm trying to love as He did
in all that I do and say.
At times I am tempted to make a wrong choice,
but I try to listen as the still small voice whispers:
Love one another as Jesus loves you.
Try to show kindness in all that you do.
Be gentle and loving in deed and in thought,
for these are the things Jesus taught."
The song says it better than I can, so I'm just going to leave it at that. I love you all!
Love,
Hermana Schroader
PS And a SUPER DUPER Happy Birthday to my favorite youngest red headed brother Quinton!
